I can’t think of a better love than unconditional love. And who’s better at unconditional love than our pets? Day in, day out, they’re waiting patiently for us to return home. Wagging their tails, ready to shower us with their boundless affection.
Be still, my loving heart!
In all seriousness though, tons of research has been conducted on the topic of having a pet and the effect it has on our well-being. Studies have shown that...
- Having your pet close while performing a difficult task, helps us feel less stressed*;
- Walking your dog everyday helps to get enough physical activity everyday**;
- Having a pet lowers your risk of heart disease. Especially owning a cat, showed a decreased risk of heart disease***.
Without further ado, here are 3 ways to return your pet’s affection:
-
Bake your pet a home-made treat
They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. The same can be said about our pets! So get to work in the kitchen. Baking a home-made treat with wholesome ingredients doesn’t have to be difficult. These cookies will give your dog the energy they need to play! You’ll need 2 ripe bananas, 2 cups of oats, ¼ of peanut butter. Mix everything together until thoroughly combined. Cut the dough into a nice doggy shape and bake the cookies for 12 to 15 minutes in the oven at 350℉.
-
Give your pet lots of play & exercise time
Pets are just like kids. They need tons of love, attention and exercise. Staying active means staying healthy. Plus, playing with your pet is a great way to connect and strengthen your bond. Take your dog to the park and play some old-fashioned fetch, hide-and-seek or tug-a-war. Good times guaranteed! Or take an old shoelace, drag it over the floor and run around your house to entertain your cat. You’ll get some exercise as well!
-
Take your pet for regular check-ups at the vet
Even our pets get sick sometimes, so it’s important to keep an eye on their well-being. Unlike our kids, our pets can only show a stomach ache by not eating or a fever by dragging around the house without their usual energy. Just to be safe, keep a thermometer in the bathroom cabinet that is designed for pets. Find one on Amazon.
